Donald Trump: A Stabilizing Factor in a Fragile World

As 2025 draws to a close, the world finds itself in a precarious balance – wars simmering, economies teetering, alliances fraying. Yet amid this fragility, one constant stands out: Donald J. Trump, the 47th President of the United States, has emerged as a forceful stabilising presence through sheer American strength and deal-making prowess.

Trump’s second term has been defined by peace through strength– a doctrine that has delivered tangible results where multilateral dithering failed. In the Middle East, long a quagmire for American presidents, Trump brokered a durable ceasefire in Gaza after two years of brutal conflict. The Sharm el-Sheikh agreement, signed with regional powers including Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, secured hostage releases, halted the bloodshed and paved the way for reconstruction. Hamas, weakened and isolated, has clung to power but without the capacity for renewed aggression. Meanwhile, US and Israeli strikes in June decisively set back Iran’s nuclear ambitions, leading to a ceasefire in the brief but intense Israel-Iran war. Tehran, its programme delayed by months if not years, has been forced to the negotiating table, retreating from proxy escalations.

This assertiveness extends to Europe and Eurasia. While the Ukraine war drags on, Trump’s envoys have pushed for negotiations, emphasising realistic outcomes over endless aid. His National Security Strategy bluntly warned of Europe’s civilisational decline, spurring allies to commit to higher defence spending – NATO’s new 5 per cent GDP pledge by 2035 is a direct outcome. Russia, facing American resolve, finds its options limited.

Closer to home, Trump’s focus on the Western Hemisphere – a modern Trump Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine – has curbed migration flows, combated cartels and asserted dominance against adversarial influences. Tariffs and energy independence have drawn trillions in investments, positioning the US economy for a boom even as global headwinds blow.

Critics decry his style as brash, his policies as nationalist. Yet the facts speak: no new major wars under his watch, flashpoints cooled, adversaries deterred. In a world weary of weakness, Trump’s unyielding America First approach has imposed order where chaos threatened. Whether this stability endures depends on sustained vigour – but for now, the disruptor-in-chief has proven a surprising anchor, reminding the globe that American leadership, boldly wielded, still matters.
